I was ridiculously excited when I received my mini donut pan from Amazon.ca. So now on to the serious decisions in life…what do I make first???? Mmm I was really craving carrot cake. Where can I find a carrot cake donut recipe? And why can’t I just use my own carrot cake recipe and rather than use a large pan to bake the carrot cake, use the mini donut pan? And when did I start caring about baking “rules?”
Done! I am going to use my own carrot cake recipe and make little donuts from it. And you know what? It worked just fine! So I dare you to take your favorite cake recipe and simply bake it in a donut pan. 🙂
Note that I sprayed the pan with oil first. You can also do it by hand and rub butter or oil on the pan. It’s up to you. The point is to not let the donuts stick.
I used a decorating bag to fill the donut holes but it was not very successful because the dough was very liquidy. You could just as easily use a spoon.
Yum! I too have recently bought some donut pans (a mini one and a regular sized one). Great idea to use a carrot cake recipe. They really are fun to make. I do find that using a piping bag is easier than trying to spoon the dough in neatly–you just have to be quick about it to catch the drips. I have also found it has been trial and error to fill the pan to the right height so that the hole doesn’t close over as the donuts rise.
I agree about the dripping. In the end I just used a spoon. I also felt that I lost a lot of the batter in the bag.
Thanks so much for your feedback! 🙂
Wow, that’s some well-balanced stack of mini donuts!
Hahaha they behaved…for once!
